Alice Mae Gordon

Alice Mae Gordon, 70, of New Castle, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 30, 2010 at The Waters of New Castle. She was born August 6, 1940 in New Castle, a daughter of the late Robert Ray Hughes and Mildred Marie Hughes Kennedy. Alice was a 1958 graduate of Chrysler High School. She had a passion for music and was a gifted musician composing and recording many songs and poems. For several years Alice and her husband John Gordon owned G & S Recording Studio where they produced gospel music. She was very active in church music programs and sang with many local groups and individuals. She attended the New Life Holiness Church in Hagerstown and in recent years spent much of her time and attention spoiling her grandchildren. She is survived by four children, Chad “Chip” (wife: Lou Ann) Gordon of New Castle, Tony (wife: Wendy) Shelton of Straughn, John Lee (wife: Stephanie) Gordon of Cincinnati, Ohio and Rhonda (husband: Tom) Thrasher of Mooreland; 11 grandchildren, Charlie, Brandy, and Jedidiah Gordon, Benjamin, Latrisha and LuRhe Shelton, Jonathan “JP” (wife: Sarah) Gordon and Jeremy Lee Gordon, and Allison “Allie”, Ashley and Alyssa Thrasher; two great-grandchildren, Brooke and Frankie; seven brothers and sisters, Charles Hughes of New Castle, Roberta (husband: Henry) Hill of Spiceland, Raymond Kennedy of Iowa, James Kennedy of New Castle, Geneva (husband: Jim) Morrow of New Castle, Allen Kennedy of New Castle and Bill (wife: Margaret) Kennedy of Pershing; a step-brother Bobby Hughes of New Castle; a step-sister, Mary Caudill of New Castle and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Haskell “Hack” Shelton; her second husband, John Paul Gordon; four sisters, Betty Hughes, Laura Huckaby, Mildred “Sue” Garner and Shirley Pennington; and her step-father, James Kennedy. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, October 4, 2010 at Sproles Family Funeral Home with the Revs Gene Bennett and Ron Coleman officiating.
