Betty Lou McGee

Betty Lou (Caldwell) McGee, 77, of New Castle, passed away in peace at St. Vincent Hospice in Indianapolis, March 26, 2012, following an extended illness as she attempted to recover from a recent surgery. She was born July 16, 1934, and was the daughter of the late William F. and Ida Belle (Ashcraft) Caldwell. She was retired from the State of Indiana and formerly served as City Clerk Treasurer in New Castle. She was a member of First Baptist Church in New Castle and until her heart problems limited her service, was a dedicated volunteer through RSVP of Delaware County. She was a life-long resident of New Castle and received great joy from helping friends, attending to her gardens and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Betty is survived by: one daughter, Shawn McGee Kahle, (husband: Dr. Robert W. Kahle) of Lakeside, Mich.; one son, Jeffery Alan McGee, (wife: Cecilia Jane Custer McGee) of Milford, Ohio; three grandchildren, Dr. Christie Lynn Petrenko (husband: Dr. Vasilii V. Petrenko) of Rochester, NY, Brian Patrick McGee (wife: Nicole Marie McGee) of Long Beach, NY, and Kimberly Renee Jorden (husband: Matthew Jorden) of Milford, Ohio; three great-grandchildren, Anna Elizabeth Jorden, Evan Matthew Jorden and Aspen Rose McGee. Also surviving are, two sisters, Dorothy Byers of New Castle, and “Cate” Raley (husband: Wallace) of Arizona, and two brothers “Bill” Caldwell (wife: Linda) of Ohio and “Steve” (wife: Carol) Caldwell of New Castle, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Max Gordon McGee, former Assistant Chief of the New Castle Police Department, in 1972, and two infant children, as well as her brother-in-law Kay Byers, and father-in-law John Irving McGee and mother-in-law Gertrude Stilwell McGee. No funeral service or showing will occur. Rather, a graveside service for immediate family and close friends will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, March 28, 2012 at South Mound Cemetery with Janet Modjeski officiating.
