Dannis D. Hollingsworth

Dannis D. Hollingsworth, 77, of Summitville, peacefully went home to be with the Lord early Wednesday morning, August 5, 2026, at his home. He was born on March 15, 1949, in Anderson, Indiana, a son of the late Rev. Terrence and Colleen (Musick) Hollingsworth. Dannis was a 1967 graduate of Alexandria-Monroe High School. He continued his education at Lincoln Technical Institute, where he earned degrees in automotive technology and management. On June 1, 1968, he married the love of his life, Karen Sue Etchison, and together they shared 58 wonderful years of marriage. A gifted mechanic with a natural ability to understand how things worked, Dannis spent much of his career at Stoops Freightliner in Anderson, where he served as a service writer. He later retired from American Woodmark. Even away from work, he could usually be found in his garage fixing something, building something, or finding a creative solution to a problem - mostly with “Duck Tape.” Dannis was a man of many talents. He loved woodworking and especially enjoyed creating beautiful pieces on his lathe. His artistic gifts also extended to oil painting, and he had a deep appreciation for the arts. Music was another important part of his life, and he especially loved singing in church. As a young man, Dannis traveled with the original Gaither Trio, selling their merchandise and setting up concerts with Danny Gaither, who would become his lifelong friend. Those who knew Dannis will remember his quick wit, ornery sense of humor, and fun-loving spirit. Picking on people was one of the ways he showed affection—if Dannis wasn’t teasing you, you might have wondered whether he liked you. Although he could appear tough on the outside, those closest to him knew he was truly a teddy bear at heart. His warm smile and playful personality had a way of brightening any room. Dannis loved wearing his bibbed overalls, a familiar look that suited his hardworking, easygoing personality. He also had an impressive collection of belt buckles that he had gathered over the years. Dannis had a special place in his heart for children and young people. He started the bus ministry and the Junior Church at Summitville Wesleyan Bible Holiness Church. For many years, he faithfully helped wherever he was needed at International Holiness Youth Camp in Greenfield and Heritage Holiness Youth Camp in Fairmount. Whether he was delivering supplies on his golf cart, helping with security, or taking care of one of the countless details that kept camp running smoothly, Dannis was always ready and willing to serve. His dependable presence and caring spirit made him a treasured part of the camp family. He was also a fast runner throughout his life and took great pride in being able to outrun his boys—a distinction he was always happy to remind them about. Above all, Dannis was a good Christian man whose faith was reflected in the way he lived, served, and cared for others. He loved his family deeply, brought laughter wherever he went, and leaves behind a lifetime of cherished memories. Family was at the heart of Dannis’ life, and he especially treasured the time he spent with his grandchildren. Some of their fondest memories will be of riding bicycles together and taking rides with Grandpa on his golf cart. Those left to cherish Dannis’ memory include his beloved wife of 58 years, Karen Hollingsworth; his children, Nathan Hollingsworth (Hollie Perry) of Alexandria, Darren (Jessica) Hollingsworth of Alexandria, Cathy Kitchen of Flemingsburg, Kentucky, Dwight (Edie) Cox of Muncie, and John (Janelle) Cox of Anderson, South Carolina; his grandchildren, Alexis Hollingsworth, Courtney (Kodie) Parsons, Bradley Cox, Dustin (Erica) Cox, Kacey (Jacob) Eickoff, Brian Jester, and Kamdyn Maupin; his great-grandchildren, Jordyn Simmons, Allisyn, Addisyn, Paetyn and Madilyn Highfield, Xander and Chandler Parsons, Damian Cox, Harley and Aaron Allen, Shelby Highfield, and Eloise and Joselyn Eickoff; several great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Terry (Cheryl) Hollingsworth of Alexandria; a sister, Leyte Clark of Anderson; an uncle, Lee (Irene) Hollingsworth of Summitville; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Dannis was preceded in death by a brother, Sheldon Hollingsworth; a sister, Terren Somers; a son-in-law, Randy Kitchen; a granddaughter, Amanda Highfield; and a grandson, Landyn Maupin. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at Alexandria Church of the Nazarene, 1401 S. Harrison St., Alexandria, Indiana, with Pastor Vaughn Walker officiating. Burial will follow at Vinson Memorial Park Cemetery in Summitville. Visitation will be held from 4:00–8:00 p.m. on Monday at the church and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the church.
