Rev. David Boyd Gardner

Rev. David Boyd Gardner, 78, of Frankfort, Indiana, went home to be with the Lord on the evening of Saturday, May 27, 2023 at St. Elizabeth Florence Hospital in Kentucky. He was born on February 1, 1945 in Erie, Pennsylvania, a son of the late James Irvin and Helen Lucille (Boyd) Gardner. Rev. Gardner married the love of his life, Rachel Anne Cope, on June 18, 1966 and together they served as missionaries to Haiti, The Dominican Republic, Mexico, & South Africa. He also volunteered with the Indiana National Guard as a chaplain at Camp Atterbury. Rev. Gardner began his ministry in the Free Methodist Church and also pastored for the Pilgrim Holiness, Wesleyan Holiness, ICHA, and the Church of God Holiness in Missouri. He loved cars - shopping for them, fixing them, and working for the Indiana Auto Auction transporting vehicles and interacting with his fellow employees. In his spare time, Rev. Gardner enjoyed hunting, fishing, and hiking. Those left to cherish Rev. Gardner’s memory include his wife of 57 years, Rachel Anne Gardner; four children, Carol Susanne Gardner of Erlanger, KY, David Lee (Lisa) Gardner, Milton, FL, Steven Nelson (Jennifer) Gardner of Frankfort, and Rebecca Lynn Marshall of Erlanger, KY; nine grandchildren, Jordan Lee (Monique) Gardner, Austin James (Ashley) Gardner, Elisabeth Jane (Eric) Owen, Alayna Gardner, Karris Lachelle Gardner, Kyler Nelson Gardner, Morgan Danielle Marshall, Kaitlyn Elise Marshall, and Joel Andrew Marshall; eight great-grandchildren, Edwin and Kenna Gardner, Mark and Franklin Owen, Hadassah and RaeLynn Zachery, Shiloh Daniel Duckworth, and James Gardner; five brothers and sisters, James (Nancy) Gardner, JoAnne (Larry) Thomas, Marjorie (Terry) Brown, Michael Gardner, and Janice (Harvey) Blass, and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Friday, June 2, 2023 at the Bethel Bible Holiness Church, 1100 S. Clay St., Frankfort, with Rev. Mark Mowery officiating. Burial will follow at Bunnell Cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm Thursday at the church. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Sproles Family Funeral Home.
