Don E. Gibson

Don E. Gibson “Gibby”, 91, of New Castle, Indiana, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on January 10, 2025. Don was born on June 26, 1933, in Medford, Indiana, to Harold and Mary (Carmichael) Gibson. Don graduated from Selma High school in 1951. He married Carolyn Gustin on December 19, 1952, and served in the United States Army from 1953-1955. Don was the owner and operator of his own milk hauling company for twelve years. He then worked with the family at the Gibson Auction House as an auctioneer. He retired in 1996 after working for 32 years at Delco-Remy. Don was a life-long Mason with Lodge 46. He enjoyed antique tractors, bailing hay, and caring for his cattle and pasture. Surviving are his wife of seventy-two years, Carolyn, and his three sons Michael, Port Saint Lucie, Florida; Dale (Tracy) of Greenfield, Indiana; and Todd (Kristi) of Albany, Indiana; and a son-in-law Paul Schmidt (Shelley) of Bloomington, Indiana. Also surviving are nine grandchildren: Stormie Olsen of Logan, Utah; Colt Gibson of Florida; Kenna Gibson of Indianapolis, Indiana; Kaylin Gibson of Fort Wayne, Indiana; Stefan Schmidt (Jennifer) of Raeford, North Carolina; Devon Schmidt of Platte City, Missouri; Gavin Schmidt of Bloomington, Indiana; and Claire Willhelm of Indianapolis, Indiana. He is also survived by two great-grandchildren, Fisher and Scottlyn Olsen, and a third on the way. Besides his parents, Don was preceded in death by his brother, Fred Gibson and his daughter, Lisa Gibson Schmidt. Viewing and visitation will be from 11 - 1 pm prior to the service at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm, on Tuesday, January 14, 2025 at Sproles Family Funeral Home, 2400 S. Memorial Drive, New Castle, Indiana 47362. Burial will follow at Tomlinson Cemetery in Muncie, Indiana. A funeral dinner will take place after the burial at True Light Baptist Church, 805 Country Club Road, Muncie, Indiana.
