Gary L. Elenburg

Gary L. Elenburg passed from this world to the next on March 1, 2024 at the age of 73. He leaves with the love of his family and his faith in Jesus Christ. Gary was born in Haleyville, Alabama, to William “Bill” and Ruth Elenburg on December 3, 1950. He attended Wapahani High School but graduated from Muncie Southside High School in 1968. He was a hard-working and conscientious rural mail carrier for the United States Postal Service for 36 years, retiring in 2014. He was a member of the Randolph-Delaware County Rural Mail Carriers Association. He was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and Adult Sunday school teacher for over 30 years. Gary enjoyed baseball and was a fan of high school and college basketball. He loved The Andy Griffith Show, the Statler Brothers, and a good meal. In addition to his parents, Gary is preceded in death by his brother, Jerry Elenburg; his first wife, Ginger (nee Humbert) Elenburg, passed in 1987. Gary is survived by his wife of 33 years, Alberta Elenburg of Muncie; sons, Eric Elenburg of Muncie and Jason Elenburg (Ryan Batsie) of Fishers; stepson, Kent (Emily) Wissler of Sarasota, Florida (grandchildren, Riley and Sophia); stepsons, Chad Wissler and Marc Wissler, both of Muncie. He is also survived by his sister Sherri (Robert) Richardson of Muncie. Surviving nieces and nephews include, Shannon Winter of Hawaii, Tracey Malnofsky, Jared Richardson, Jenna Eastham, and Ryan Humbert, all of Muncie, and Brandon Humbert of Port Saint Lucie, Florida. Though a dementia diagnosis impacted Gary’s last years, it did not touch his love for his family, especially his wife, Alberta Elenburg, who was a loyal caretaker to the end. The family would like to thank the hard-working staff of Parker Health and Rehabilitation Center for providing care and snacks for Gary in his last years, as well as the fellow residents who provided friendship and support. Visitation will be held from 6:00 – 8:00 pm, Tuesday, March 5, 2024 at Fellowship Baptist Church, 2204 S Macedonia Ave, Muncie, IN 47302. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 am, Wednesday, March 6, 2024 at the church with Pastor Ron Elam and Tim Reynolds officiating. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory Cemetery.
