Geraldine "Jeri" K. Benson

***Please note: Calling hours for Monday from 4 - 7 p.m. will continue as planned however, due to weather conditions the family will also receive friends from 11:00 a.m. Tuesday until time of service.*** Geraldine K. “Jeri” Benson, 62, of New Castle, entered into the presence of her Lord Jesus, Tuesday morning March 19, 2013 at I.U. Health University Hospital in Indianapolis following a lengthy illness. She was born January 1, 1951 in New Castle, a daughter of Adam and Sophie E. (Hensley) Copp. Jeri was a 1969 graduate of Walter P. Chrysler High School and also attended Ball State University. She was an office administrator with Commonwealth Life Insurance Company for 29 years, retiring in 2003 due to her illness. She was a member of Park Place Free Methodist Church where she especially enjoyed decorating the church. Jeri enjoyed watching food and cooking shows on television, riding with her husband on their motorcycle, gardening and growing flowers. An avid shopper, she treasured the time she spent with her family and her church family. Jeri also enjoyed taking care of her Schnauzer, Zachariah and her Miniature Pincher, Tyrus Nebo. She was especially fond and loved her great nieces and great nephews, Dustin, Emily, Madison, Evan, Joshua, Kaitlyn, Ashley and Douglas and her great-great-niece, MacKinze. Jeri deeply loved her Lord. She is survived by her loving husband of nearly 40 years, Rick Benson; her mother, Sophie Copp of New Castle; a sister, Dianne (husband: Jim) White of New Castle; a brother, Tim (wife: Marianna) Copp of Knightstown; a brother-in-law, Bobby (wife: Marcia) Benson of New Castle; nieces and nephews, Brenda, Dawn, Angie, Kimberly, Addam, Charity and their spouses; many relatives in Tennessee and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her father, as well as her father and mother-in-law, Eugene and Maxine Benson. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at Sproles Family Funeral Home with Pastor Steve Hickman and Rev. Ted Malone officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery West Lawn Addition. Friends may call from 4 – 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
