James O. Davis

James O. Davis, 92, of Indianapolis, slipped peacefully into the arms of Jesus on the evening of Wednesday, June 28, 2023, at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on November 6, 1930, in Shoals, Indiana, a son of the late Freeman G. and Nola (Emmons) Davis. Jim married the love of his life, Alberta M. Scarbrough, on June 8, 1957. Jim served as a Sergeant in the US Army on the front lines of the Korean War. He worked for Western Electric in Indianapolis for over 30 years. Following retirement, he owned Jim’s Home Improvement Center. Jim also worked for seven years in the Paint Department at the Beech Grove Walmart. Jim and Alberta were long-time members of the Nazarene Church serving in the children’s ministries at Westbrook, Gracepoint, Southside, and Southport Churches of the Nazarene. He had a heart for children also serving in bus ministry and Sunday School. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing and hunting. Jim loved his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Those left to cherish Jim’s memory include his loving wife of 66 years, Alberta Davis; two daughters, Melanie Davis of Indianapolis and Melinda (Greg) Ferguson of Avon; five grandchildren, Mark Anthony Davis of Arizona, Maureen Davis of New Mexico, Maria (Chris) Sheets of Greenwood, Michael Block of Bloomington, and Arie Block of Franklin; three great-grandchildren, Briana Davis of Arizona, Ashlynn and Skylynn Sheets of Greenwood; a sister Wilma Walters of Florida; a step-sister, Norma Fendley of Indianapolis, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by a son, Mark Davis in 2020; a sister, Maxine Tedrow, and a brother, Richard Davis. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Monday, July 3, 2023, at the Southport Church of the Nazarene with Rev. William Swesey officiating. Friends may call from 5 – 8 pm Sunday and one hour prior to the funeral Monday at the church. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 pm Thursday, July 6, 2023 at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Greenwood with military burial honors provided by contingents from the US Army and the Indy Metropolitan Military Honor Guard. There will be a funeral procession forming at the Southport Church of the Nazarene at 12:00 pm on Thursday. The family invites their friends and family to join them.
