James Arnold Jordan

James Arnold Jordan, 62, of Solsberry, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, February 6, 2015 unexpectedly at his home. He was born April 7, 1952 in Indianapolis, a son of the late Oscar and Elsie (Bryant) Jordan. James was a 1970 graduate of Harry Wood High School in Indianapolis. He served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany. He married the love of his life, Joann Swindell on September 10, 1971. James worked for General Motors in Indianapolis for 30 years before retiring in 2001. He was a member of the Whitehall Holiness Church where he taught Adult Sunday School and served on the board. James also served as the Assistant Missions Treasurer with the ICHA (International Conservative Holiness Association). He and Joann opened their home and provided loving care to numerous foster children throughout the years. His passion and emphasis on Christian education led him to start two Christian schools. He enjoyed being with family and spending time on the family property, Jordan Ridge. His long time hobby and passion was slot car racing. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Joann Jordan; three children, Jennifer (husband: Ken) Mims of Gosport, Julie Conn of Birmingham, AL and Joe Jordan of Solsberry; three adopted children, John, Ariel and Makayla Jordan all at home; grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Brooklyn, Courtlyn, Gracelyn and Noah Mims, Dallas and Seth Conn, Wesley Jordan and Ashley Sitzman and her daughter, Ailyn; brothers and sisters, Emma (husband: Billy) Swindell of North Vernon, Darla (husband: Tom) Holdren of Indianapolis; Carl (wife: Joann) Jordan of Shoals, Tina (husband: John) Dodrill of Greenfield, Donald (wife: Trina) Jordan of Shirley and Doris Jordan of Fortville and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Davis and Denise Hunsberger; a brother, Anthony Jordan in childhood, and two infant siblings, Richard and Debra Jordan. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 10, 2015 at Southeastern Holiness Church, 3957 Southeastern Ave. Indianapolis, with Rev. Marc Dodrill and Rev. Dan Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Washington Park East Cemetery with military honors provided by contingents from the U.S. Army and VFW. Friends may call from 4 – 8 p.m. Monday at the church and one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the ICHA for Missions.
