Janet Chew

Janet Chew On May 9, 2026, Janet Marie Chew, loving wife, mother and grandmother, passed away at age 87. Janet was born on Sept. 4, 1938, in Spiceland, Ind. to Melvin and Violet (Helton) Warrick. She graduated from Fort Wayne Community School District in 1956. On Nov. 4, 1956, she married Ivan Chew, the love of her life; they were married nearly 67 years when he passed. They raised two children, Doug and Connie. Family First. That’s how Janet Marie Chew lived her life. She adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed spending time with her family, gardening, traveling and making quilts and scrapbooks. Janet’s gentle spirit, steady faith and servant’s heart touched countless lives. She served 30 years as a volunteer in the surgery waiting room at Henry Community Health. She also taught at Spiceland Elementary School helping children read. She served on church committees and taught Sunday school and VBS. She attended New Lisbon Christian Church, South Memorial Church of God, White Branch Church and women’s Bible Study Fellowship. Janet was the heart of her family. Her steady outpouring of love will be cherished and dearly missed. She was preceded in death by her husband Ivan C. Chew, parents Melvin and Violet Warrick, sister Nancy Swafford, granddaughter Naomi Ruth McBride and son-in-law Tad McBride. Janet is survived by her son Doug (wife Gail); daughter Connie; grandchildren Amber M. Chew; great-grandchildren Collin M. and Corbin M.; Aimee (husband Jeff) Morgan; great-grandchildren Dominic and Elena; Dustin (wife Pam) Chew; great-grandchildren Davin, Daxton and Daelen; Daniel (wife Beth) McBride; great-grandchildren Samuel, Jane and Daisy; siblings Joanne Herendeen Cooper, Melvin (wife Mary) Warrick, Gary (wife Lynn) and several nieces and nephews. Her calling will be held on Friday, May 15, 2025, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Sproles Family Funeral Home, 2400 S. Memorial Dr., New Castle, IN 47362. Janet’s funeral will take place on Saturday, May 16, 2025, at 11 a.m. with a graveside service following at New Lisbon Cemetery.
