John C. Whisler

John C. Whisler, 73, of New Castle, passed away unexpectedly at home on Monday, April 17, 2023. He was born on September 25, 1949, in Indianapolis, Indiana, a son of the late Gene and Phyllis (Murphy) Whisler. John was a lifetime farmer. It wasn’t his job; it was his passion, and he loved every minute of it. He attended Purdue University where he studied agriculture. For many years, John enjoyed meeting every day at “The Beanery” at Bill’s Diner with his fellow farmers telling jokes and sharing stories. John loved his family, farming, and fishing, in that order. He loved Basketball and was a Trojan fan. John rooted for the IU Hoosiers when Bobby Knight was coach and later for Purdue. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #933 for over 40 years and was a huge W.C. Fields fan. He married his longtime partner and the love of his life, Bea (Isom), on November 26, 1988, and together they farmed and enjoyed many years of close companionship. When you saw John in the combine you would find Bea close behind in the grain hauler. John loved spending time with his family and especially his special great-grandson, Colton Frank. Those left to cherish John’s memory include his loving wife, Bea Whisler; children, Tracy (Patrick) Burney of Bladenboro, NC, Dr. Amy (Anthony) Whisler of Madras, OR, Holly Shoopman of Coats, NC, Kelly (Kirsten) Armstrong of Mobile, AL, and Kimberly (Raymond) Smith of Russiaville; grandchildren, SMSgt Ryan (Kelsi) Santini, USAF, of Albuquerque, NM, John Dee Armstrong of Dallax, TX, Lana (Jarrod) Scace of New Castle, Chelsea Armstrong of Colorado Springs, CO, Megan (Adam) Edge of Elizabethtown, NC, SrA John Allee, USAF, of Bossier, LA, and Skylar and Ian Belanger of North Carolina; great-grandchildren, Colton Frank, Harleigh, Deacon, and Lilly Scace, Zoey Muse, Dylan Santini, Raiden Santini, Bristol Edge, Emmett Edge, and Gavin Edge; his sister, Martha Ann Burke of New Castle; a sister-in-law, Patty (Mark) Hayworth of Lewisville; several nieces including, Debby (Danny) Isaacs, nephews, cousins, and many special friends including, Johnny Lannerd, Royce Cook, Brandon King, Randy Lester, Ed Jones, and Donny Loveless. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his “Gramps and Granny” Pete and Mildred Kolde, with whom he was very close, and a brother, Steven Michael Whisler. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 pm Friday, April 21, 2023 at Sproles Family Funeral Home. Burial will follow in McCray Cemetery in Wilkinson. Friends may call from 2:00 pm – 4 pm.
