Laura Ellen Ransom

Laura Ellen Ransom, 57, of Muncie, entered the presence of her Lord and Savior on Thursday afternoon, June 11, 2026, at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital, surrounded by the love of her family and dear friends. She was born on October 10, 1968, in Muncie, Indiana, the daughter of Bill and Judy (Privett) Upchurch. Laura attended Christian schools and graduated from Northside High School in 1987. On August 29, 1987, she married the love of her life, Bret Ransom. Together, they built a life centered on faith, family, and love, sharing 38 wonderful years of marriage. While attending college, Laura worked in commercial lending at First Merchants Bank for ten years before her illness. Though she was dedicated to her work, it was her family and the care she showed others that truly defined her life. Laura had a servant's heart and found great joy in caring for those she loved. She enjoyed cooking meals, baking treats to share with others, sewing, planning special gatherings, and tending to her garden. Whether through a thoughtful gesture, a warm meal, or a listening ear, Laura had a remarkable way of making people feel loved and valued. Her kindness, compassion, and gentle spirit left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her. In addition to her mother, Judy Upchurch, of North Webster, those left to cherish Laura's memory include her devoted husband, Bret; her daughter, Alicia (Brock) Watters of Muncie; her son, Derek Ransom of Muncie; two granddaughters, Emma Grace and Sadie Rose; three grandsons, Ezekiel, Asher, and Malakai; three brothers, Bill (Lesa) Upchurch of Muncie, Tony Upchurch (Shari Davis) of North Webster, and Brian (Ginger) Upchurch of Greenfield; her father-in-law, Duane Ransom, of Parker City; several beloved nieces and nephews, and her best friend and caregiver, Jennifer Dodds of Muncie. Laura was preceded in death by her father, Bill Upchurch; her grandparents, Helen and Louis Privett, and Shirley and Evy Upchurch; and her mother-in-law, Susan Ransom. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at Memorial Baptist Church, 2911 S. Phillip Dr., Muncie, with Dr. Gerald Privett and Pastor Chris Black officiating. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory in Muncie. Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday at the church.
