Richard T. Hughes Jr.

Richard T Hughes, Jr, age 59, of New Castle, passed away July 10, 2010 at St Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis from complications of long term diabetes. He was born in Miami, AZ on July 21, 1950, a son of the late Pearl (Ison) and Richard T Hughes, Sr. Richard graduated from Globe High School in 1969 and later completed two years of college at Eastern Arizona College. He was a copper miner until he retired in 2003 after 19 years with Phelps Dodge (Freeport McMoRan). He enjoyed photography and spending time with family. He is survived by his wife, Pamela (Howard) Hughes of New Castle; daughters, Onalee Counceller (husband: Eric) and Karla Hughes of New Castle, Marja Panetta (husband: Marco) of Montreal, Canada, Hailey Peck (husband: Aaron) of Tucson, AZ, and Kathy Worrell of Phoenix, AZ; a son, Vernon Hughes (wife: Roxanne) of Farmington, New Mexico; ten grandchildren, Skylar (9), Shelby (6), and Levi (2) Counceller, Anthony DeCiancio (7), Toby Worrell (4), Madison (7), Simon (5), and Sebastian (4 mos) Peck, Lilly (3), and Vin (6 mos.) Panetta. He is also survived by two sisters, Elaine Hughes of Globe, AZ and Linda Hoover (husband: Lane Reed) of Prescott Valley, AZ, and several nephews, nieces, and their children. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Kenneth and Jerry Hughes; two sisters, Phyllis Powell and Marilyn Knowlton; and two grandchildren, Bryant and Dalton Worrell. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Friday, July 16, 2010 at Sproles Family Funeral Home. The funeral procession to the cemetery will leave from the funeral home at 12:15 p.m. Graveside services will be held at 12:30 p.m. Friday at Hicksite Cemetery in Greensboro with Rev. David L. Earlywine officiating. Following the graveside service there will be an informal gathering and luncheon at Mt. Zion Wesleyan Church to celebrate Richard’s life. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, August 7, 2010 at the Real Life Community Church in Safford, AZ.
