Violet Ruth Wells

Violet Ruth Wells, 91, of New Castle, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 27, 2018 at Heritage House Rehabilitation Center surrounded by her family. Violet loved her Tennessee roots and shared her memories often. She married her loving husband, Harry Wells, in February 1949 and came to the New Castle area in 1956 with their young children. Violet worked for many years as seamstress and inspector at Huntington Industries until they closed. Violet was a prolific flower gardener and had an extraordinary green thumb. She was a bright light in this world and had a great zest for life. She was very involved in her community and was known for her positive attitude. Violet enjoyed her country home, flea market finds and researching her family genealogy. Those left to cherish her memory include her four children, Jimmi (Chuck) Berkey of North Vernon, Mike (Amy) Wells of Selma, Steve (Robin Thornburg) Wells of Mooreland and Sherry (Don) Denney of New Castle; five grandchildren, Chris Wells, Amanda Bryant, Ryan Berkey, Amber Santee and Jessika Feltz; two sisters, Helen Stone and Glenda Baker both of Tennessee along with many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. Violet was preceded in death by her husband, James Harry Wells, Jr.; parents, Howard and Gradie Long; brothers, Brice Long, Ronald Long and James Long; one sister, Martha Long and two daughters-in-law, Lynn D. Wells and Julia A. Wells. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 2, 2018 at First Christian Church, 2000 Bundy Avenue in New Castle with Rev. Alecia Gross officiating. Family will receive friends from 1 - 3 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Memorial contributions may be made in Violet’s memory to the First Christian Church, 2000 Bundy Avenue, New Castle, IN 47362 with envelopes available at the church. Burial will be held in Green Hills Memory Gardens on Monday, December 3, 2018.
