Abbie M. Raines

March 15, 1917 - April 18, 2022

She has fought the good fight, she has finished the race, she has kept the faith. On April 18, 2022 Abbie M. Raines “Granny”, 105, of New Castle received her crown and met her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was born on March 15, 1917 in Wayne County, Kentucky in Harmon Hollow to the late John and Viola (Covey) Harmon. Granny was a past member at Keens Chapel Methodist Church in Monticello, Kentucky and later worked at the Chew Chew Restaurant and Hammond Nursing Home as a cook. She also worked in the house keeping department at the “old clinic” and Henry County Memorial Hospital where she retired. She enjoyed working in her flower gardens, sewing, quilting, cooking and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Granny made sure everyone was fed. Those left to cherish her memory include her sons, Bob Raines of New Castle and Otto (wife: Judy) Raines of Carlisle, IN; daughter-in-law, Elaine Raines; 12 grandchildren and their families and many great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; special friends, Susie, Daisy, Cindy, Sue and her adopted family at Heritage House. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert D. Raines in 1968; a daughter, Norma Jean Jolley in 1995; a son, Roscoe Raines in 2018; three sisters, Stella Hurt, Flonnie Asberry and Mattie Hurt; three brothers, Jim Harmon, Willie Harmon and Hubert Harmon and a daughter-in-law, Carol Raines. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm, Friday, April 22, 2022 at Sproles Family Funeral Home in New Castle with Pastor Chris Gammelo and Stanley White officiating.
