Sandra Arlene Boardman, 72, of Westfield, Indiana, went home to be with the Lord on the evening of Saturday, August 8, 2015 in her home following a courageous 18 year battle with Parkinson’s disease. She was born August 30, 1942 in Comanche, Oklahoma, the daughter of the late Wilbur S. and Lois Inez (Whitney) Brown. Arlene began playing piano in church around age 12 and singing duets with her father by age 15. She attended Bible Missionary Institute in Rock Island, IL and traveled and sang with the college trio. Arlene expressed her passion for teaching children through Sunday School, Vacation Bible School and giving piano lessons. For nine years she was the Sunday School Secretary for the Heartland Bible Methodist Conference. Arlene was a great assistant to her husband as they pastored churches in Iowa, New York, Indiana, Ohio, Illinois and Arizona. She loved caring for her family and was an outstanding cook, widely known for her Southern Fried Chicken. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Rev. Charles Boardman; five children, Dan (wife: Kandi) Boardman of Sheridan, IN, Dr. David (wife: Heidi) Boardman of Jackson, MO, Sarah (husband: Paul) Holden of Middletown, OH, Dr. Steven (wife: Luann) Boardman of Milan, IL, and Philip (wife: Lisa) Boardman of Hampton, VA; 17 grandchildren, Janae (husband: Cameron) Welbaum, Brent (wife: Kirsten) Boardman, Joshua, Benjamin, Zachary, Caleb and Emily Boardman, Sandra (husband: Zane) Hatfield, Paul (wife: Breanna) Holden, Jessica Holden, Phillip, Matthew, Kara, Bethany, Ethan, Logan and Addison Boardman; four great-grandchildren, Levi, Tucker and Kayla Hatfield and Lyndsey Welbaum; three brothers, Myron (wife: Betty) Brown of Lake Charles, LA, Preston (wife: Patsy) Brown of Chattanooga, TN, and Quinton (wife: Judy) Brown of Lake Charles, LA, and a number of nieces and nephews. Arlene was preceded in death by her parents, a grandson, Kyle Boardman, and two nephews, Franklin and Charles Wilhelm. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, August 14, 2015 at Village Park Bible Methodist Church, 219 W. 161st St. Westfield, with Rev. John Forsee, Rev. Chris Cravens, Rev. John Parker, Rev. O.W. Willis and Rev. G. Clair Sams officiating. Burial will follow in Eagletown Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 – 8 p.m. Thursday at the church and one hour prior to the service on Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be offered to the East Valley Holiness Church, 805 Mesa Dr., Mesa, AZ 85210. Arrangements are in the care of Sproles Family Funeral Home in New Castle.
