Benjamin F. Williams Jr., 85, of New Castle, went home to be with the Lord on Friday at Henry County Hospital following a brief illness. He was born October 3, 1923 in Oneida, Tennessee, a son of the late Benjamin F. Williams Sr. and Olive C. (Chambers) Williams. Mr. Williams worked for Chrysler Corporation in New Castle for 32 years retiring in 1980. He served in the United States Army during World War II in the Pacific Theatre. He was a member of Memorial Wesleyan Church and enjoyed gardening, especially growing roses, and feeding the birds. He was an avid walker and enjoyed hiking in the woods. He was a supporter of the Arts Park, the Library, and the Henry County Pregnancy Care Center. His family included his wife, Myra (Edwards) Williams, whom he married on April 23, 1948; six children, Patty J. (husband: Travis) Hinton of Santa Rosa Beach, Florida, M. Kaye (husband: Dan, deceased 2001) Williams of New Castle, C. Faye (husband: Mark) Coy of Speedway, Anthony W. (wife: Terri) Williams of Carthage, Jeffry Paul (deceased) and John R. (wife: Bonnie) Williams, of Walker, Louisiana; 16 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Ivona Garrett of Oneida, Tennessee, Judy Williams of Vicksburg, Mississippi, Carol Williams of Columbia City; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Lansden Carson Garrett, James Marion Williams, and Pleasant Winfred "PW" Williams; a sister, Frankie Lee Allred; his son, Jeffry Paul and son-in-law, Dan Williams. A service to celebrate Mr. Williams’ homegoing will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 26, 2008 at Sproles Family Funeral Home with Rev. Lloyd Van Meter officiating. Military Honors will be provided at the funeral home by the American Legion and V.F.W. Honor Guard. Entombment will follow in South Mound Cemetery West Lawn Addition. Friends may call from 4 – 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
