Carroll Haywood Irvine, 81, of Sulphur Springs, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on the afternoon of Wednesday, January 17, 2018. He was born on January 27, 1936 in Pulaski County Kentucky, a son of the late Folger Gayle and Beatrice (Barber) Irvine. Carroll grew up in Pulaski County, KY where he attended Pulaski County High School and worked on the family farm. He served his country in the United States Marine Corps from 1954-1958. Carroll met the love of his life, Geneva, in Pulaski County, KY where they were married on April 8, 1957. Carroll brought his family to New Castle in 1962 and worked for Horney’s Music Store until opening C&A Music Store in 1977. Carroll owned the C&A Music Store on Broad Street in New Castle from 1977 – 2002 where he became known as “The Music Man”. Carroll was a hardworking man who labored from dawn to dusk. He enjoyed farming, camping, fishing, music and collecting musical instruments from auctions and garage sales. Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 60 years, Geneva (Dick) Irvine; a daughter, Caroline (husband: Dave) Latzen of New Castle; a son, Matthew (wife: Deni) Irvine of Raleigh, NC; five grandchildren, Brant, Eric, Chad, Kyle, Danielle; seven great-grandchildren; siblings, Wilma (husband: Hack) Hall, Dwight (wife: Sue) Irvine, Wanda Jean Spears, Linda (husband: Doie) Spears, Diane (husband: Hollis) Hamman and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Ronald Irvine and a brother, Gordon Irvine. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, January 22, 2018 at Sproles Family Funeral Home with Pastor C.J. Buskirk officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery West Lawn Addition with Military Honors conducted by contingents from the US Marine Corps, American Legion and VFW. Friends may call from 2 – 6 pm on Sunday afternoon at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Sulphur Springs Volunteer Fire Department in honor of Carroll.
