Franklin “Dale” Poor, 78, went to heaven peacefully in his sleep on Monday, December 29, 2014 at Henry County Hospital. Dale was born February 26, 1936 in New Castle, a son of the late Willis Edgar and Ida (Beaty) Poor. Dale was a 1954 graduate of Sulphur Springs High School. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Franklin College and a Master’s Degree in Education from Ball State University in 1965. Dale devoted his life to education, teaching in Anderson and Tipton for 37 years, where he also coached sixth grade basketball. He was a member of the Indiana State Retired Teachers Association, Mt. Zion Wesleyan Church and Bible Study Fellowship. For eight years he served on the Shenandoah School Board. Dale also farmed for most of his life near Cadiz retiring in 2008. He enjoyed raising cattle, hogs, goats, ponies and Collie dogs; gardening, flowers, mowing his lawn and singing gospel music. He is survived by two sons, Tim (wife: Joreen) Poor of Dover, MA and Todd (wife: Lora) Poor of Middletown; a daughter, Lori (husband: Larry) Pavey of Smyrna, TN; seven grandchildren, Cody and Carly Poor, Allison, Abbigail, Alexander, and Andrew Pavey and Amelia Poor; a brother, James (wife: Evelyn) Poor of Sulphur Springs; three sisters, Geraldine (husband: Ray) Hay of Rushville, Kathleen (husband: James) Beck of Indianapolis and Linda Poor of Ft. Myers, Florida and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Loyce Elaine (Ponewash) Poor on July 4, 1987. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 3, 2015 at Mt. Zion Wesleyan Church with Rev. Bob Schon and Rev. Robert Van Cise officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery West Lawn Addition. The family will receive friends from 5 – 8 p.m. Friday at Sproles Family Funeral Home.
