Delmar L. Taylor, 81, of New Castle, passed away Sunday, April 7, 2013 at Henry County Hospital following an extended illness. He was born April 15, 1931 in Barnhill Township in Wayne County, Illinois, a son of the late Roy O. and Della M. (Perkins) Taylor. Delmar moved with his family to Indiana when he was five years old and graduated from Sulphur Springs High School. Delmar retired from Delco Remy in Anderson after 37 years of employment. He married Judith “Judy” Cronk on September 23, 1951. He was a member of First Friends Meeting in New Castle, which he served as trustee. Delmar was also a member of the UAW Local 662 and Veterans of Foreign Wars and a former member of Raintree Wood Carvers, which he served as president. Delmar served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War as a cook and earned the rank of Sergeant E-5 while stationed in Korea. Delmar greatly loved spending time with his children and his grandchildren. He especially enjoyed fishing trips to Minnesota and Canada, riding his motorcycle and driving his red Corvette. A NASCAR enthusiast, he was a huge Tony Stewart fan. He was an excellent artist and was an especially gifted wood carver. He loved the outdoors and wildlife. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Judith (Cronk) Taylor; three sons, Brent D. (wife: Rhonda) Taylor of Carmel, Bradford L. Taylor of Cumming, Georgia and Mark J. (wife: Shelly) Taylor of New Castle; ten grandchildren, Jennifer (husband: Justin) Moffett of Carmel, Tamara Taylor (friend: Jon Walters) of Louisville, Kentucky, Emily (husband: Bradley) Weckesser of Fayetteville, West Virginia, Brandon Taylor of Carmel, Jessica (husband: John) Herndon of Decatur, Georgia, Michelle Taylor (friend: Jon Sturgis) of Chicago, Alexis Taylor of Cumming, Georgia and Nicholas, Lauren and Colin Taylor all of New Castle; three great-grandchildren, Jackson, Marcus and Fletcher Moffett of Carmel; two brothers, Donald (wife: Esther) Taylor of New Castle and Marlin (wife: Mary Ann) Taylor of Lake City, Michigan; a sister, Doris (husband: Kenneth) Brenneman of New Castle and three brothers-in-law, Phillip Cronk of Richmond, William Cronk of Sulphur Springs and Robert Hinshaw of Yorktown. He was preceded in death by a sister, Cora Mae Kennedy, in addition to his parents. Visitation will be held Thursday, April 11, 2013 from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Sproles Family Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, April 12, 2013 at Sproles Family Funeral Home with Rick Schoeff presiding. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery with military honors provided by a contingent from the U.S. Army, the American Legion and V.F.W.
