Everett Lee “Jack” Smith, 74, of New Castle, died Sunday, July 17, 2016, in Indianapolis, following an extended illness. Jack was born February 28, 1942 in Albany, Kentucky to the late Ina Pearl and Ruben Smith. He worked for the City of New Castle as a mechanic and was an avid fisherman. Jack enjoyed hunting and spent countless hours attending to his garden. He was also notorious for sitting under the shade tree, in his front yard, visiting with family and friends. He is survived by two children, Lee Smith (wife: Connie) of Annandale, VA and Paul Smith (wife: Barb) of Butler, PA; eleven grandchildren, Brett Smith (wife: Karen-Anne) and Brooke Smith of Annandale, VA, Christopher Smith and Crystyn Smith of New Castle, Sophia Smith and Jaileene Brown of Butler, PA, Brandon Murphy of Muncie, Westley Nealis (wife: Christina), Astena Retz (husband: Levi), Leann Fritts (husband: Jeramy), all of Winchester and Brittany Holmes of Indianapolis; sister, Ruth Phelps (husband: Leon) of New Castle and many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ellen (Duncan) Smith; his daughter, Lucinda “Cindy” Smith; and his siblings, David Smith, Ken Smith and Colleen Smith. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 20, 2016 at Sproles Family Funeral Home with Debi Garner officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery West Lawn Addition.
