Gene R. Catron

Gene R. Catron, 86, of New Castle, formerly of Mooreland, received his wish and was peacefully called home to Heaven on Sunday afternoon, April 7, 2024, at Henry Community Health, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on May 7, 1937, in Monticello, Kentucky, a son of the late Sherman and Bonnie (Atkinson) Catron. Gene came to Indiana when he was six years old, but those early formative years in Kentucky would greatly impact his life. He was a hard worker who took pride in everything he did. Gene retired from Brooks Foods in 1996. A man of integrity, he was kind and compassionate and never spoke an ill word about anyone. Gene made everyone around him smile and feel included. Gene was a friend to all he met and was always ready to lend a helping hand. He had a love for God, his family, and life that seemed endless. After having been a Christian for many years, Gene was baptized in 2020 and began leading others to Christ. He enjoyed spending time with family, visiting with friends, attending church, and being outdoors in nature. He especially enjoyed listening to his daughter sing gospel hymns and gathering for Sunday dinner with his wife, kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids. His hobbies included fishing, ginsenging, hunting morel mushrooms, growing a vegetable garden, and “piddlin around”. Gene’s favorite pastime was going metal detecting with his son. Those left to carry on Gene’s legacy include his wife of 57 years, Pamela (Pierce) Catron; two children, Deanna Catron and Dale (Connie) Catron, Sr; two grandchildren, Dale (Amber) Catron, Jr. and Cierra (Dustin) Pruitt; two great-grandchildren, Kinsley and Dakota Pruitt; two sisters, Glenna (Kenneth) Thompson and Lorene Dickerson; several dearly loved nieces and nephews, and a special family friend, Tammy Edmonds. In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by four sisters, Lois Logan, Georgia Godfrey, Darlene Dishman, and Dottie Holmes, and three brothers, Wilburn Catron, Edward Catron, and Ray Catron. Gene's impact on this world is beyond measure and will live on for many generations. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Friday, April 12, 2024, at Sproles Family Funeral Home with Rev. Raymond Siggers officiating. Cremation will follow the service. Friends may call from 11:00 am until the time of service Friday at Sproles Family Funeral Home.
