July 8, 1920 - January 9, 2022
George H. Dunnington passed to his eternal reward on January 9, 2022. He was born on July 8, 1920 near Monticello, Kentucky and spent most of his adult life in Henry County. He was an electrician at Perfect Circle in Hagerstown for 23 years, interrupted by his service in the Army in the European Theatre during WWII. While still employed, he began speaking in area churches, ultimately serving as pastor of three different congregations before leaving the factory for full-time Christian ministry in 1964. The Reverend Dunnington served for a short time as an evangelist, preaching in churches throughout the country and then pastored churches in Shirley, Muncie and Corydon, Indiana. He retired in 1987 and spent over a decade caring for his wife, Lucille (the love of his life), until her death in 2001 from complications related to Alzheimer’s disease. Throughout his eighties, George visited in hospitals and nursing homes, bringing encouragement and prayer to many. From his commitment to Christ in 1948 until he was no longer physically able, he was a positive witness to the Good News of the Gospel. As his health declined, he received loving care and support from his daughter Joy, while living with her and son-in-law Steve Broad near Anderson. He is remembered by all who knew him for his joyful, outgoing, positive, loving, faithful, God-honoring life. In addition to his wife, George was preceded in death by his parents and all ten of his brothers and sisters. He is loved and honored by his children, Cheryl (Robert) Spessert (Norfolk, VA), Brenda Joy (Steve) Broad (Anderson), Gary (Kim) Dunnington (Carmel) and Don (Jane) Dunnington (Oklahoma City) and grandchildren, Molly John, Emily Spessert, Ethan Spessert; Kara Kirk, Kyle Watson; Kent Dunnington, Taylor Dunnington, Kelsey Hutchinson, Spencer Dunnington; Deron, Jason and Kevin Dunnington along with nine great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 15, 2022 at the Sproles Family Funeral Home in New Castle. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery.
