Homer Junior Denney, 55, a lifelong resident of New Castle, Indiana, passed away peacefully in his sleep on the evening of Tuesday January 28, 2020. Loving family was by his side as he died following complications from his third heart valve surgery. He was born March 15, 1964, in Indianapolis, Indiana. Homer was a lifelong talented handyman with an extraordinary work ethic. He wholly enjoyed, and was passionately devoted to, his entrepreneurial handyman craft. Homer had a noteworthy knack for professionalism, and organizational skills, while on the job. He zestfully lived to earnestly accomplish countless, challenging projects. Homer was highly regarded, by his many years of clientele, for his remarkable commitment to ensure a job well done. Homer was a lively outdoorsman who, amongst other nature activities, enjoyed boating and fishing at Lake Santee in Indiana. He had a green thumb and took pleasure in growing flowers and other greenery. He enjoyed the companionship of a wide array of pet animals throughout his lifetime. Since childhood, Homer was an avid professional wrestling fan. He was also a lifelong rock 'n' roll fan who enjoyed attending music concerts with friends. He was a dedicated Indianapolis 500 race fan and often attended races and Carb Day events. In the last few years, Homer became an IU college basketball and football fan and began to increasingly attend games. Homer was humble, grateful, generous, optimistic, resourceful, and motivated. He selflessly liked to help others. Homer cherished all who held him dear, especially his sister, Teresa. He was spontaneous and adventurous, had a spirited sense of humor, and his wild card personality was electrifying. Homer is survived by sister, Linda Latham of New Castle, Indiana, brother, Gary (wife: Brenda) Hays of Kokomo, Indiana, and sister, Teresa Huckeby of Sulphur Springs, Indiana; nieces, Lisa Doran (husband: David), Brandy, Jane Huckeby, Amber Ahumada (husband: Jesus, children: Katalaya, Ezekeiel), and great nieces and nephews, Caleb, Nicole, Little Kenny, Kamden, Sara, Ricky, Leanna, Kristy, Tiffany, Michael and Mitchell. Homer is also survived by longtime friends, Doctor Phyllis Grant, Margie Grant, Sam Cook, and Steve Brown. He is preceded in death by his mother, Elma Hays and father, Homer D. Denney. Homer is also preceded in death by brother in law, A.B. Huckeby and friends, Betty Knight, Vernon Dickison, and Elizabeth Griffith. Homer will be greatly missed by his family and friends. A service honoring Homer's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 4, 2020 at Sproles Family Funeral Home in New Castle, Indiana with Gary New officiating. Visitation will be 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday February 4, 2020 at the funeral home. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery West Lawn Addition.
