Jay Clapp, 44, of New Castle, passed away Sunday, October 21, 2018 at IU Health Methodist Hospital following a brief but valiant battle with cancer. Jonathan Jay Clapp was born on January 10, 1974 in New Castle, the son of John C. Clapp and Jamey (Harris) Atkinson. Jay was a 1992 graduate of New Castle Chrysler High School and attended Ball State and Vincennes Universities and earned many computer programming certifications. Jay married the love of his life, Julie Swoveland, on July 21, 2001. He was passionate about spending time with his two boys, Jackson and Caleb, especially through sports. He enjoyed coaching youth football, challenging and leading the boys in physical training and CrossFit. He was employed with ScriptSender, a web-based medical platform, in computer programming and sales. Jay was naturally gifted as an artist sculpting, painting, and drawing. He attended Mooreland Friends Church and enjoyed video games, fast and loud cars, music, and travel. Jay was very patriotic and loved all things USA. Those left to cherish Jay’s memory include his wife of 17 years, Julie Clapp; two sons, Jackson and Caleb Clapp; his mother, Jamey Atkinson of New Castle; half-brother, Shane (wife: Heather) Clapp of Greenwood; half-sister, Crystal Munson of Fishers; three uncles, Bart (companion: Lori) Harris of New Castle, Jay (wife: Amy) Harris of Lexington, KY, and Garry (husband: Jim) Clapp of Indianapolis; his in-laws, Ross and Judy Halstead of Mooreland and Les and Debbie Swoveland of Mooreland; a brother-in-law, Craig (wife: Kim) Swoveland of Mooreland and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Jay was preceded in death by his father, John C. Clapp and grandparents, Joseph D. and Jeanette Harris, Claude and Mary Lou Clapp, and Jesse and Lois Compton. Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Saturday, October 27, 2018 at Sproles Family Funeral Home with Pastor Brenda Earley officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Summit Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 - 8 pm Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be offered to the Mooreland Friends Church, in care of the Clapp Family, PO Box 180 Mooreland, IN 47360.
