    Rev. John R. Thompson

    September 27, 1926 - February 23, 2018

    Rev. John R. Thompson, 91, of New Castle, went home to be with the Lord on the evening of Friday, February 23, 2018 at Glen Oaks Health Campus. He was born September 27, 1926 in Albany, Kentucky, a son of the late Cal and Nancy (Rigney) Thompson. John served in the US Navy during WWII on the USS Independence Aircraft Carrier and the USS Gage and earned a two-star Asiatic-Pacific Area Campaign Medal. He married the love of his life and faithful partner in ministry, Anna Louise DeRossett, on February 24, 1951. Rev. Thompson felt the call to ministry in 1955 and attended Union Bible Seminary in Westfield graduating in 1963. He spent 42 years in active ministry where he pastored churches in Indiana, Kentucky, and Ohio. He most recently attended the Pilgrim Holiness Church. Rev. Thompson was a man of strong convictions who never wavered from his principles. He was a machinist at the Allison Division of General Motors retiring in 1981 following 30 years of employment. Rev. Thompson is survived by his three children, Bob (wife: Ellen) Thompson of Avon, Jerry Thompson (Debra Thompson) of Fairland and Debra (husband: Joseph) Raimondi of New Milford, PA; five grandchildren, Andrea Thompson, Rebecca (Andrew) Taylor, Steven (Addie) Thompson, Jonathan (Janella) Thompson and Katriana Raimondi; six great-grandchildren, Devan, Katelynn, Natalie and Jace Thompson and Brielynn and Kaiden Taylor; a sister, Lena Bertram; a brother, Frank (Edith) Thompson and several nieces and nephews. He is reunited in heaven with his beloved wife of 64 years, Anna Louise Thompson; brothers, William and Russell Thompson; sisters, Opal Parrigan, Louise Shelley and an infant sister, Eva Thompson. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, March 1, 2018 at Sproles Family Funeral Home with the Reverends Vernon Shockley and Don Raines officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery West Lawn Addition with military honors provided by contingents from the US Navy, American Legion and V.F.W. Friends may call from 4 - 8 pm Wednesday at the funeral home. You may offer the family a personal condolence at www.sprolesfamilycares.com.
