Juanita Wilson, 84, of New Castle, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis following a brief illness. She was born April 8, 1928 in Keno, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Gilbert and Girtie (Taylor) Wilson. For many years, Juanita owned and operated Uptown Cleaners on 18th and G Avenue. In the 1950’s she sang and played bluegrass with her first husband, “Little Jimmie Hughes” and the Country Boys Band. She often performed at Baker Park and sang live on WCTW where her husband worked as a DJ. She was a member of Mount Union Baptist Church in Keno, KY. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Harold L. Wilson; two sons, Ricky Hughes of Naples, FL and Gary (wife: Shelley) Wilson of New Castle; two grandchildren, Shelby and Joshua Wilson; five sisters and one brother, Doris Dobbs of New Castle, Faye (husband: Jim) Daily of Keno, KY, Jimmy (wife: Janie) Wilson of New Castle, Marilyn Sue Johnston of New Castle, Joyce (husband: A.J.) Davis of New Castle and Brenda (husband: Jerry) Phelps of Bronston, KY; three sisters-in-law, June Wilson of New Castle, Wanda Wilson of Somerset, KY and Alice Shepherd of Carthage and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Jimmie Hughes; four brothers, Arthur, William, James and Virgil Wilson; a sister, Mallie Kidd; and two brothers-in-law, Ernest Johnston and Harold Dobbs. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 9, 2013 at Sproles Family Funeral Home with Rev. Larrel Boling and Rev. Paul Kirk officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery West Lawn Addition. Friends may call from 4 – 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
