She was born on March 1, 1940 in New Castle, Indiana, a daughter of the late Noel and Vivian (Oldham) Shortridge. Linda was a 1958 graduate of Cadiz High School and a graduate of Porter Business College. She married Larry Holcomb on October 12, 1963. She worked at Firestone Company in New Castle before becoming a cook at Cadiz Elementary and Sulphur Springs Elementary. Linda then became Head Cook at Shenandoah Elementary for 25 years until retiring in 2003. She belonged to the Henry County Extension Homemakers “Kalico Kids” Club for over 50 years and was named Homemaker of the Year in 2014. Linda enjoyed sewing, crocheting, cooking, canning, and sitting out on the front porch at the farm. She was a hard worker, gave tirelessly of herself and was always there when needed. Her favorite saying was “Don’t sweat the small stuff” and more recently “Whatever is going to happen is going to happen.” Those left to cherish Linda’s memory include her loving husband of 56 years, Larry L. Holcomb; a son, Brad Holcomb of New Castle; four grandchildren, Justin Holcomb of Henderson, NV, Jacob Holcomb of Greenfield, Brian (wife: Kassi) Holcomb of Princeton, and Megan Holcomb of Mt. Carmel, IL; two great-grandchildren, Ava and Madison Holcomb; a daughter, Mary Holcomb of Mt. Carmel, IL; her sister, Lenita (Rev. Marion) Hickman of Lewisville, and many special cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends. She was preceded in death by a son, Brent Holcomb. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Sproles Family Funeral Home. All services will be held privately by invitation of the family due to the Coronavirus restrictions.
