Philip Delmar Clemens, 84, of New Castle passed away on the evening of Friday, November 19, 2021 at home surrounded by his family. He was born on September 28, 1937 in Fountain City, Indiana, a son of Presley and Edith (Mitchell) Clemens. Philip attended and graduated from Fountain City Schools where he played basketball, baseball, football and ran track. After high school, he began working for Wright Patterson Air Force Base as a computer programmer. He was married to the love of his life, Donna Holland on February 21, 1959 in Richmond, Indiana. Philip worked for Ingersoll Steel in New Castle as a computer programmer and retired after 30 years. During retirement, he worked for Fred’s Pharmacy. He served on the Board of Directors for the Babe Ruth League and coached the Ingersoll Steel Team. Philip attended First United Methodist Church – The Place and enjoyed spending time in the community. Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Donna S. Clemens; children, Doyle (Tammy) Clemens, Duane (Christa) Clemens, Tammy Clemens and Darren (Sherrie) Clemens; grandchildren, Tyler (Sisah) Clemens, Christopher (Jerika) Clemens, Kami Clemens, Megan Clemens, Corey (Alicia) Clemens, Jared (Mehgan) Clemens, Donovan Clemens and Brittany (Ryan) Montgomery; great-grandchildren, Haven, Corbin, Kaison, Asher, Teigen, Davin, Luca, Maren and Ada; two sisters-in-law, Gracie Cox and Mary Lou Holland and several cousins, nieces and nephews In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, James R. Clemens and a best buddy, Tom Hope. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Monday, November 29, 2021 at Sproles Family Funeral Home in New Castle with Rev. Dennis Kinser and Pastor Paul Davis officiating. Burial will follow at South Mound Cemetery West Lawn Addition. Friends may call from 2 – 6 pm, Sunday, November 28, 2021 at Sproles Family Funeral Home. The family would like to thank Leslie Boatright with Henry Community Health Home Care and Jennifer Cox with Brighton Hospice for their care during his final days. In an effort to carry on Phil’s love of baseball and commitment to community, the Clemens Family asks that you please consider donating to The New Castle Babe Ruth League in Memory of Philip Clemens. A fund will be established to ensure the League can continue to serve underprivileged youth afford uniforms, equipment and overcome other obstacles that may deter them from participating.
