Phyllis "Mamoo" Jean Whisler, 85, of New Castle, died Saturday, November 3, 2012 at Heritage House of New Castle, following a lengthy illness. She was born December 11, 1926 in Shirley, a daughter of the late Forest and Martha Mildred (Finney) Murphy. Phyllis was a graduate of Shirley High School and Indiana Business College. She served for many years as an administrative assistant at a local law firm, Farm Credit Services and the Henry Township Assessor’s office. She also farmed with her husband, Gene Whisler. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Shirley Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, P.E.O. and New Castle Bridge Club. She is survived by two sons, Steve and Dr. Vesta Whisler of Valdosta, Georgia and John and Bea Whisler of New Castle; a daughter, Martha and David Burke of New Castle; grandchildren, Joey and Heather Burke of Lakeland, Florida, Andy and Jenny Burke of New Castle, Adam and Ashlee Burke of Greenfield, Nathaniel Burke of Greenwood, Tracy andB Patrick Burney of Bladenboro, North Carolina, Amy Whisler of Dillingham, Alaska, Holly Belanger of Fayetteville, North Carolina, Michael and Anne Whisler of Whitestown, Kyle and Megan Whisler of Los Angeles, California and Kari Whisler of Cincinnati, Ohio and several great-grandchildren that she dearly loved. She was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Gene Whisler in 1990; an infant sister, Velma June Murphy; stepfather, Frank Kolde; an aunt, Katherine Dehnbostel; and a cousin, Joyce LeCompte. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, November 8, 2012 at Sproles Family Funeral Home with Pastor Tom McGilliard officiating. Burial will follow in McCray Cemetery in Wilkinson. Friends may call from 5 – 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial Contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church.
