Rev. Verlin E. Chipp, 82, went home to be with the Lord early in the morning hours of Thursday, October 20, 2016 with his loving family by his side. He was born on October 26, 1933 in Grand River, Iowa, a son of the late Thomas Alexander and Mary Emmiline (Spray) Chipp. Verlin graduated from high school in Lucas, Iowa and attended Olivet Nazarene University. He married the love of his life, Berniece Showers, on June 28, 1952. For several years, Verlin worked for Armstrong Tire and Rubber in Des Moines, Iowa. Verlin was saved and dedicated his life to Christ on March 19, 1959. He began his pastoral ministry in 1960 and pastored mostly with the Church of the Nazarene in Iowa, Indiana and Kentucky. Rev. Chipp always had a pastor’s heart and loved the people he faithfully served. He also served as an evangelist across 11 states. He enjoyed working with wood and did carpentry work in addition to pastoring. One of his greatest loves was his library of books and reading and he loved having his children with him at home. Those left to cherish Verlin’s memory include his loving wife of 64 years, Berniece Chipp; five children, Marilyn J. Botkin of Noblesville, Carolyn K. Sneed, David Eugene Chipp, Sharolyn M. (husband: Jack) Hawes and Jarolyn L. Hensley all of Indianapolis; 13 grandchildren, Melissa Lynn Lile, Deanna Lynn Bauer, Ronald L. Botkin, Amy Renee Sneed, Jami Sneed, Jason Sneed, Christopher Michael Lambert, Jennifer Michelle Davis, Latisha N. Heckman, Mindy L. Hesley, Danielle M. Bowling and Bri Hensley; many great and great-great grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Jean Chipp, Lois Keller and Hazel Showers; a brother-in-law, Cecil Crawford and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Coy Showers; a granddaughter, Jacinda Trejo; a great-grandson, David Tyler Heckman; a son-in-law, Kermit M. Botkin; five brothers, Norman, Urman, Lowell, Lewis and Robert Chipp; three sisters, Margaret Burchett, Maxine Glazebrook and Verda Crawford and brothers-in-law, Max Keller, Dean Showers and Hubert Showers. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 24, 2016 at Cornerstone Church of the Nazarene, 1326 Sumner Ave. Indianapolis, with Pastor Randy Perry, Rev. David Cook and Rev. William Sweezy officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4 - 8 p.m. Sunday at the church.
