Roy W. Allen
May 10, 1927 - December 22, 2021
Roy W. Allen, 94, of New Castle, was at his home when he went to heaven on the morning of Wednesday, December 22, 2021. He was born on May 10, 1927 in Cumberland County, Kentucky, to the late Harve and Meldie (Owens) Allen. Having no access to transportation he achieved an eighth grade education at Seminary School, though he was promoted onto high school because of his high scores. He went to school half days so he could still return home and work in the fields. Roy loved all of God’s creation and animals were drawn to him. His love for gardening began at home while helping his father and brothers on the farm. He also worked in a rock quarry and hauled stave timber, amongst other jobs. At age 19, he moved to New Castle to take a job at Ingersoll Steel Mill, where he retired at age 55. Roy worked in the furnace room and made steel and later became a shearman, teaching himself the slide rule method to run calculations. After retiring from the mill, besides farming, he also did piece work and sharpened saw blades with machinery installed in his barn. Roy enjoyed tending his small farm, raising animals and loved to grow fruits and vegetables. He always produced plenty to give away to friends and neighbors, making sure to glorify the Lord for the abundance. Roy loved planting seeds in the ground and watching them grow. “Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.” John 12:24. He always said that the Lord wanted him to save a corner of the field for those in need. At age 26, he joined Foursquare Gospel Church and even helped to lay blocks for the extension when the church was on North Main Street. He remained a member until his death where he enjoyed fellowship with his brethren and singing for the Faith Class. He loved listening to Bluegrass Gospel music and sang along with his high tenor voice. Roy loved the Lord and loved sharing his testimony with others. He believed wholeheartedly in lending a helping hand to others, especially his neighbors. He was known for his smile and his kindness. He always wished everyone to “Have a good day”. Those left to cherish his memory include a daughter, Sheila Newland of New Castle; a son, Roy Eric (wife: Teresa) Allen of New Castle; sisters, Reba Martin and Lola (James) Jones: grandchildren, Angela Dubinger, Jennifer Denney, Katlynn (Riley) Morgan, and Kirstie (Jason) Curtis; great-grandchildren, David Wyatt (Lillie) Denney, Lila Denney and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 66 years, Christella “Cricket” (Martin) Allen; brothers, James Allen, Glenn Allen, Clifton Allen, Beldon Allen, Horace Allen and a sister, Margie Young.
