    Ruby June Slaven

    February 12, 1923 - May 5, 2020

Ruby June Slaven, 97, went to be with the Lord on the morning of Tuesday, May 5, 2020 at her daughter’s home surrounded by family. She was born on February 12, 1923 in Muncie, IN a daughter of the late Richard and Minnie (Wilhelm) Brown. Ruby married Leamon “Red” Slaven on July 2, 1958. They were blessed to travel all over North America together including all the 50 states and most of the Canadian provinces. Together they were the hosts at Summit Lake Campgrounds, leaders of the Holiday Rambler RV Club and members of the Blountsville Christian Church and United Methodist Church of Fort Gaines, GA. Ruby enjoyed camping and going to garage sales, especially with her grandchildren and supporting them in their sporting events. She was an excellent cook and baker, famous for her fudge deserts and potato salad. Ruby loved spending time with her family and the highlights of the year were holidays and putting up her Christmas tree with the grandchildren. Those left to cherish her memory include her loving husband of 62 years, Leamon Slaven; children, Cloyd (wife: Eleanor) Griffey Jr. of Georgia, Marian Donovan of Florida and Carolyn “Penny” (husband: Jack) Cunningham of New Castle; daughter-in-law, Bonnie Griffey of Losantville; 16 grandchildren, David, Craig, Gary John, Richard, Debbie, Brenda, Terry, Samantha, Nicole, Dean, Glenn, Tom, Tina, Lisa, Lori and Lonna; 33 great-grandchildren, 25 great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Ralph Arlen Griffey; a daughter, Marilyn Faye Conley; sons-in-law Coy Conley and Richard Donovan; grandchildren, Terry Donovan, Glenn Griffey and Debbie Conley and great-grandson, Travis Sharrett. A time of gathering for friends and family will be held from 2 – 4 pm, Saturday, May 9, 2020 at Sproles Family Funeral Home followed by a meal at Mt. Zion Wesleyan Church. Due to Covid 19 restrictions we will be limited to 25 guests in attendance at a time. You may send the family a personal condolence at www.sprolesfamilycares.com The Sproles family and staff are honored to serve the family of Ruby Slaven.
