    March 3, 1955 - June 7, 2017

Sharon Marie Alspaugh, 62, of New Castle, passed away on the morning of Wednesday, June 7, 2017, in her home following a brief but courageous battle with cancer. She was born on March 3, 1955 in New Castle, a daughter of the late Royce and Vivian (Graves) Alspaugh. Sharon was a 1973 graduate of Shenandoah High School, and earned a Bachelor’s Degree and a Masters Degree in Education from Ball State University. She taught at Wilbur Wright Elementary for many years and went on to teach Elementary Education at Ball State University. Sharon also supervised student teachers at Ball State and Western Governors Universities and enjoyed taking a group of students to teach a semester at the USAG Baumholder Army Base in Baumholder, Germany. She was a member of Psi Iota Xi Sorority. Sharon loved gardening, designing floral arrangements and working in her yard. She had a love of adventure and a zest for learning. Her favorite job however, was being a mother to her two sons and Nana to her five grandchildren. Those left to cherish Sharon’s memory include her two sons, Aaron Leonard Benson (fiancé: Kylie Ann Raymond) and Brant Royce Benson (wife: Kelly Sue) both of New Castle; five grandchildren, Kalie, Nate, Madie, Brayden and Brynnlee; a sister, Susan Alspaugh (partner: Susan Buchan) of Sulphur Springs and her caring partner, William H. Hall of New Castle. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 pm Sunday, June 11, 2017 at Sproles Family Funeral Home with Pastor Jerry Ingalls officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Summit Cemetery. Friends may call from 2:00 pm until 6:00 pm Saturday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be offered to Cancer Services of ECI - Little Red Door - www.littlereddooreci.org.
