September 18, 1925 - December 9, 2018
Stella Helderbrand, 93, of New Castle, went home to be with the Lord early on the morning of Sunday, December 9, 2018 in her home where she had lived for 64 years. She was born September 18, 1925 in Elliottsville, Rowan County, Kentucky. Stella was the fifth of twelve children - nine of whom survived to adulthood - born to late Pressie and Lula Belle (Conn) Black and was their last surviving child. Granny was a “mother hen” since she was young and loved caring for children. She married the love of her life, Ernest T. Helderbrand, on May 25, 1943 in Maysville, KY. They moved from Morehead, Kentucky to New Castle in 1950. She worked at Henry County Memorial Hospital and the Henry County Clinic for 35 years. Everyone who met Stella loved her and called her “Granny.” She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, and playing board games with family. Everything revolved around her family which was her greatest love. Granny loved her dachshund, Heidi, who was a faithful companion and friend. Those left to cherish Granny’s memory include her daughter, Dianna (Phillip) Gilliam of Polo, MO; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, as follows, Phillip N. (May) Gilliam; Suzanne (Aaron) Greer and their children, Madelyn, Peter and Sullivan; ET Helderbrand III and his children, Kim and Katie of New Castle; Sherry Lyn Roginski and her children, Micayla, Mitch and Brelyn all of New Castle; Paul (Tiffany) Helderbrand Jr. and their children Chase and Conner of Illinois; Charlie (Raeanne) Helderbrand and their children, Chloe Duvall and Brayton Helderbrand; two daughters-in-law, Anita Kay Helderbrand - who was married to Paul - and Brenda Helderbrand - who was married to Ernest, Jr; a sister-in-law, Helen Black (widow of Johnny Guy) and many nieces, nephews and church friends. Stella was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Ernest T. Helderbrand, Sr.; two sons, Ernest T. Helderbrand, Jr. and Paul Edward Helderbrand; a granddaughter, April Dawn Helderbrand; three brothers, Curtis C., Johnny Guy, and Glennis Black and five sisters, Laura Lowe, Rena Wilson, Nellie Cue, Martha Covey, and Betty Albertson as well as the siblings who did not survive childhood, Jesse, Loretta and Verna.
