Virgil L. Miller, 84, of Union City passed away on the afternoon of Sunday, August 16, 2020 at St. Vincent Randolph Hospital in Winchester. He was born February 3, 1936 at home during a blizzard in Tobridge County, Michigan, a son of the late Howard F. and Rosey E. (Engelman) Miller. Virgil moved to West Virginia when he was three months old and later worked with his father on a small farm and in the timber business. At age 17 he moved to Winchester, Indiana to work at Anchor Hocking Glass. On October 31, 1955 Virgil joined the US Navy Air. After basic training at Great Lakes Base in Illinois, he was stationed in Pearl Harbor working as a Jet Mechanic. On May 10, 1960, he was honorably discharged from service. Back home in Winchester, Virgil went to a show and met a young lady by the name of Iris Lovell, whom he asked out for a soda. They were later married at his sister’s home on October 1, 1961. Virgil enjoyed hunting and working on small engines. He also worked for many years as an automotive mechanic for Gilmore Racing. Those left to cherish his memory include his son, Theron Miller (girlfriend: Shelley Anne Burkhardt); grandson, Taz Miller; great-grandchildren, Jaydon Feaster and Jaylen Miller; sister, Margaret (husband: Ken) Warnake. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Iris Miller and his brother, Marvin Miller. Family and friends are invited to attend a graveside service for Virgil at 10:00 am, Saturday, August 22, 2020 in the Hero Section of Elm Ridge Memorial Park in Muncie on the west side of the cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by the United States Navy. You may send the family a personal condolence at www.sprolesfamilycares.com.
