Walter "Jack" Thomas

March 28, 1953 - February 11, 2020

Walter Jackson “Jack” Thomas, 66, of New Castle, went home to be with the Lord on the morning of Tuesday, February 11, 2020 at Heritage House of New Castle following a lengthy illness. He was born March 28, 1953 in New Castle, Indiana, a son of the late Walter E. and Marjorie Lee (McWilliams) Thomas. Jack was a graduate of New Castle High School. He loved farming and also worked for many years at Foam Rubber Products. Jack greatly enjoyed raising animals organically and selling meat and eggs at his J & J Farm on State Road 36. He married Joy (Welsh) Herrman on March 28, 1987. Jack was a long-time member of Grace Baptist Church where for several years he served as head usher. Those left to cherish Jack’s memory include his wife of almost 33 years, Joy Thomas; one son, Matthew (Michelle) Thomas of Huntington Beach, CA; three step-children, Michael (Kathy) Herrman of Mooreland, Amy White of New Castle and David Herrman of New Castle; six grandchildren, Addie, Sophie, and Jacob Herrman and Allison, Katie, and Abigail White; a sister, Nikki (Joe) Henry of Plainfield; a niece, Tina (David) Buell and great niece, Rachel Prince all of Mt. Summit. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday, February 15, 2020 at Sproles Family Funeral Home with Pastor Denny Neal officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hills Memory Gardens.
