William J. Meyer

William J. Meyer, 92, of New Castle passed away peacefully on the evening of Monday, January 24, 2022. He was born on August 9, 1929 in Greensburg, IN, a son of the late Oscar and Beryle Bevington. Bill grew up in Connersville and graduated from Connersville High School. He joined the United States Army where he served his country for 24 years before retiring. During his service he earned the rank of First Sergeant and Senior Drill Instructor. He was awarded the Silver Star for his courageous action during a Viet Cong ambush in Vietnam. He was also was awarded two Bronze Stars and countless other ribbons for his honorable service. During his time stationed in Germany, he met the love of his life, Jutta Glaeser, and they were married on July 4, 1958 in Germany. Following his military career he worked 14 years as a trooper for the Indiana State Police. Bill was a man that loved his family and his country. Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 63 years, Jutta Meyer; a son, Bob Meyer; five grandchildren, Dustin (wife: Amy) Griffey, AJ Meyer, Niki Meyer, Clayton Meyer, and Bobbi Meyer; six great-grandchildren and a sister, Joyce (husband: Bill) Wulff. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Meyer Griffey. A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00 pm, Monday, January 31, 2022 at Sproles Family Funeral Home with military honors.
