Charley R. Pierce

Charley R. Pierce, 83, of Spiceland, went home to be with the Lord early Saturday morning, February 15, 2025, at Community Heart Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born on March 6, 1941, in Albany, Kentucky, a son of the late Edwin E. and Anna Christine (Stephens) Pierce. Charley was a 1960 graduate of Spiceland High School. He married the love of his life, Wilma Jean Huckeby, on August 19, 1961. Charley entered the US Army and was stationed in Germany. He served two active-duty terms and then in the US Army National Guard before retiring as a Staff Sergeant in 1986. Charley was a machine operator for Chrysler Corporation in New Castle for over 30 years. Charley loved serving the Lord and reading his Bible. He read the Bible through over 60 times. While his children were in school, his family hosted exchange students from Finland (Carita), Sweden (Linda), and Italy (Franchesco). Charley loved to work with wood, building swings, and other items, and he enjoyed gardening, canning, fishing, gospel music, gospel singings, fishing, and fellowship with other brothers and sisters in Christ, including his breakfast friends at Hardee’s. Those left to cherish Charley’s memory include his son, Kurt (Melissa) Pierce of New Castle; his daughter, Lisa Pierce of Spiceland; three grandchildren, Kyle Pierce, Kim (David) Merchand, and Ashley Ingram; eight great-grandchildren, Katie Dawn, Drake Douglas, Alexis Grace, Miley Nichole, Ethan Scott, Keyan Zander, Lakelyn Lisa Ann, and Levi; his brothers and sisters, William (Collie) Pierce of French Lick, Roy Pierce of New Castle, Hazel (Larry) Hoover of New Palestine, Paul (Carolyn) Pierce of Wilkinson, Mary (Lorin) Frisbie of Spiceland, and Dona Davis of Fortville, and several cousins, nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Charley was preceded in death by his wife of almost 52 years, Wilma Jean Pierce; twins that were stillborn, a son, Tony Allen Pierce, and two brothers, David and Kendall Pierce. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Friday, February 21, 2025 at Sproles Family Funeral Home with Pastor Don Raines and Rev. Dale Reynolds officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery West Lawn Addition. Military Burial Honors will be provided by contingents from the US Army, The American Legion and V.F.W.
