David Allen "Dave" Lenz

David Allen “Dave” Lenz, 59, of New Castle, passed away on Sunday afternoon, March 9, 2025, at IU Health University Hospital surrounded by his loved ones. Since 2005, Dave fought a long battle with lung cancer. At the end of February, he was diagnosed with acute leukemia. After the first round of treatment, he not only contracted pneumonia but a fatal case of sepsis. He left this world a fighter. Dave was born on August 24, 1965 in New Castle, Indiana, a son of the late Irvin Jacob “Pete” Lenz Sr., and Betty Louise (Alderson) Lenz. Dave loved his job as a jailer at the Henry County Sheriff’s Office, where he retired in 2005. He was known to treat everyone with respect and kindness, no matter their circumstances. Dave was a ray of sunshine to all who knew him. Never knowing a stranger, he went through life with a smile on his face and a joke on standby. His love for God, family, and friends kept him going. Dave was always authentically himself, and his legacy will live on through the memories and lessons he gave everyone. Those left to cherish Dave’s memory include his loving wife of 35 years, Tammy Lenz; his daughters, Hailey Lenz of New Castle and Elizabeth Lenz (Companion: Paul Kissick) of Greenfield; his best bud, his Australian Shepherd, Frehley; two sisters, Patricia (Rev. Henry) Weaver of New Castle and Linda Boling of New Castle; a brother, Robert “Bobby” (wife: Cynthia) Lenz of New Castle; a sister-in-law, Rebecca Lenz of New Castle; his nieces and nephews, Sonia (Ray) Smith, Karen (Andy) Edwards, Kimberly Wurtz, Lonnie (Laura) Boling, Jeremy (Cheryl) Boling, Chad (Christina) Lenz, Leslie Lenz, Tiffany (Jason) Owens, Misty (Quinton) Watson, and Chasity (Tim) Durick, and several great-nieces and great-nephews. In addition to his parents, Dave was preceded in death by two brothers, Irvin Jacob Lenz Jr., and Victor Joseph “Joey” Lenz; his in-laws, Dale and Evelyn Amonett; and two brothers-in-law, Roger Amonett and Jackie Sutherland. In honor of Dave and his love of superheroes, please feel free to wear his favorite color green or even superhero attire to his visitation and service. A service to celebrate Dave’s life will be held at 7:00 pm Monday, March 17, 2025, at Sproles Family Funeral Home with Rev. Henry Weaver officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5:00 pm until the time of the service on Monday.
