Edwin Bryson

Edwin Bryson, 91, of rural Spiceland, passed away April 17, 2026. He was born on November 20, 1934, the son of Ruel and Lucille (Wise) Bryson. Ed was a 1953 graduate of Spiceland High School & served his country honorably in the U.S. Army during 1954 and 1955, spending most of his service in Germany. He was a member of the American Legion. Edwin married the love of his life, Virginia Eckart, daughter of Adrian & Helen Eckart of Rush County, on January 23, 1960, in Plum Creek Christian Church, and was blessed with 66 years of happy marriage. He and Virginia so enjoyed spending several years at their winter home in Ft Myers Beach, Florida. They also made many trips out west. He retired from Henry County REMC after 33 years of service. Ed was a former president of the Henry County Saddle Club. He enjoyed raising, training horses, and showing in horse shows along with his son. He later switched to draft horses using them to work the fields, as he liked the old way of farming. Ed was quite a woodworker, building his own oak wagon, and would give wagon rides. He also made a lot of the oak furniture in the Bryson home. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Carolyn Wolski, of Wilkinson, and his brother, John Bryson, of Spiceland. Ed is survived by his wife, Virginia; a son, Michael Edwin (Jennifer Meyer) Bryson of Spiceland; two very special grandchildren whom he dearly loved, Sara Elizabeth Bryson and Andrew John Bryson, of Spiceland; a sister, Betty Moffitt of Spiceland; a sister, Judy Lewman of Greenfield, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at Spiceland Friends Church with Pastor David Brock and Pastor Eric Boling officiating. Burial will follow at Circle Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the church from 12:00 pm until the time of the service on Tuesday.
