Ethel Joyce Truitt

Ethel Joyce Truitt, 91, of Greenfield, Indiana, went home to be with the Lord on the morning of Monday, February 3, 2025, at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. She was born on August 22, 1933, in Flora, Louisiana, a daughter of the late Grover Louis Parsons, Sr. and Sarah Jane (Smith) Parsons. Joyce was a devoted Christian and a warm, loving mother and grandmother. She left her children a legacy of Jesus by bringing them to church, praying with them daily, and reading scriptures. Joyce married James John Patrick Laughlin in the 1950s, and they had their two children, Pamela and John, in Florence. Massachusetts. Joyce’s home in New England was always immaculate, warm, and inviting. She was talented in many areas, and you could always find her involved in a new project, hobby, or interest. She was passionate about decorating, floral arranging, designing, China painting, reading, and staying up on the news. Joyce was an avid cook and baker and loved gardening. Upon moving to Lake Charles, LA, Joyce pursued a career in nursing. She graduated third in her class from SOWELA Technical College School of Nursing in Lake Charles. This became the building block for devoting the rest of her life to helping others. Joyce met and married the love of her life, Moody Truitt, in the 1980s, and those were the happiest years of her life. Those left to cherish Joyce’s memory include her daughter, Pamela Laughlin of Pendleton; a grandson, Zachary (Elizabeth) Dazey of Indianapolis; a great-grandson, Storm Dazey; a sister, Yvonne “Bonnie” Owen of Biloxi, MS, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Joyce was preceded in death by her first husband, Jim Laughlin; her second husband, Moody Truitt; a son, John Patrick Laughlin, in 2021; three sisters, Delores Ilgehart, Amelia Raleigh, and Lela Long, and five brothers, Vernon Parsons, Floy Parsons, Alvin Parsons, Troy Parsons, Grover Louis Parsons, Jr. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 pm Thursday, February 6, 2025, at McCray Cemetery in Wilkinson.
