Gene Bertram

Gene Bertram, 64, of New Castle, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 23, 2010 at home. He was born on December 4, 1945 in Gap Creek, Kentucky, a son of the late Lewis William and Nellie Bertram. He was a life-long carpenter and had been self-employed for 30 years. He was employed by T & W Corporation of Indianapolis for 20 years and had also worked for Ingersol Steele, where he met his beloved wife of 31 years. He enjoyed being with his family, friends and Cross Roads Church family. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Wanda “Lou” Bertram; four children, Kenneth Bertram of Georgia, Carmen (husband: Bruce) Orr, Phil (wife: Vanessa) Gard, Cindy (companion: Mitch) Reeves all of New Castle; grandchildren, Derek ( wife: Alissa) Orr, Nikki (husband: Matthew) Daffron, Neva Orr, Ashli Gard (fiancé: Jeremy), Bays Gard, Trey Hurley, Gene Gard (companion: Amy), Kate Gard (companion: Curtis), Pete Reeves (companion: Kasey), and Tyler Reeves all of New Castle, James, Steven and John Bertram of Greenfield; great-grandchildren, Dakota Raley, Derek and Nolan Hurley, Connor, Cadence, and Cory Daffron, Maddox Lovell, Alana Orr, Henry Reeves, and Alexis Stockton; Also surviving are brothers and sisters, Gladys (husband: Frank) Ramseyer of Muncie, Jewell Hicks, Faye (husband: Alva) Perry, June (husband: Jay) French, Ann (husband: Billy Jo) Carroll all of New Castle, Peggy (husband: John) Schott of Missouri, Loretta (husband: Lonnie) Duvall of New Castle, Julie (husband: Darrell) Duvall of Fort Wayne, Donna (husband: Steve) Logan of New Castle, Dean (wife: Bessie) Bertram, Ray Bertram, and Roy Bertram all of New Castle; Brothers and sisters-in-law, Frances (husband Ernest) Key of Kentucky, Elsie Howard of New Castle, Ed (wife: Susan) Kirby of Linton, Faye (husband: Ronald) Daffron of North Carolina, Robert Kirby (companion: Debbie) and Cindy Kirby both of New Castle; honorary brother and sister, Jerry and Kathy Chesher of New Castle; special friend, Jeff Hasty of New Castle; and also several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by Columbia Kirby and Billy Kirby. Funeral services will be held at 9:00 a.m. Monday, September 27, 2010 at Cross Roads Church with Pastor Danny Douglas conducting the service with special speakers Steve Disbro and grandson, Derek Orr. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery West Lawn Addition. Friends may call from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. Sunday at Sproles Family Funeral Home and one hour before service at the church.
