Jean Gipson

Jean (Sanders) Gipson, of Spiceland, went home to be with the Lord on the morning of Thursday, June 18, 2015, at her daughter’s home in Beaufort, South Carolina, where she had lived for the past 9 months. She was born on July 18, 1924, a daughter of the late William H. and Lorene (Armstrong) Sanders, in Tracy City, Tennessee. Jean spent her life as a homemaker and was a devoted wife who loved her family, especially her children. She was a Godly woman and was a charter member of Kennard Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years. Jean was well known for her homemade chicken and dumplings that she prepared for church dinners. She enjoyed going to church, reading her Bible, Gospel music, sewing, cooking and serving as hostess for her family and friends. Jean is survived by her four daughters, Kay Bennett of Spiceland, Linda Baker of Gruetli-Laager, TN, Helen Jean “Jeannie” (husband: Clay) Collins of Eubank, KY, and Lisa (husband: Rodney) Craft of Beaufort, SC; nine granchildren, JoDee (husband:Todd) Casteel, Daleny (husband: Jason) Campbell, Amy Lynn Guffey, Kelly (wife: Amanda) Baker, Rob (wife: Casey) Collins, Carrie Collins, Jennifer (husband: Andy) DePuy, Joshua Craft and Eric (wife: Timaree) Craft; 17 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Edna Nunley of Tracy City, TN, Helen McKaig of Rising Fawn, GA and Patty (husband: Glover) Wingo of Chattanooga, TN; her brother, Alvin Sanders (wife: Bonnie) of New Castle and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Gipson; a son, John Harold Gipson; sons-in-law, Dale Bennett and Thomas Baker; a sister, Lois Sanders; a brother, Wayman “Bud” Sanders; a grandson-in-law, Keith Dewayne Guffey and a brother-in-law, Leonard McKaig. Friends may join in the Celebration of Jean’s life and home-going at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 27, 2015 at Sproles Family Funeral Home with Pastor Larrel Boling and Pastor Brent Weaver officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Cove Cemetery, Knightstown. The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. The Sproles family and staff are honored to serve the family of Jean Gipson.
