Judy Taylor

Judith “Judy” Ann (Cronk) Taylor, 82, of New Castle, passed away unexpectedly from natural causes on Wednesday, October 28, 2015. She was born December 2, 1932 in New Castle, the youngest daughter of the late Chester Clinton and Mary (Burcham) Cronk. Judy graduated Valedictorian from Cadiz High School in 1950 and married Delmar Lee Taylor on September 23, 1951. She retired in 1996 from Avesta Sheffield Plate after more than 20 years of employment in the accounting department. Later, she worked for a number of years in the Henry County Auditor’s office. Judy was a life-long member of New Castle First Friends Meeting, and a long standing member of its Friendly Questers Sunday School Class and its United Society of Friends Women (USFW). She also served on Indiana Yearly meeting’s USFW Board. For decades, she was a very active member of New Castle Business & Professional Women's Club and in 1993 received its Woman of the Year Award. Judy was a member for over 50 years of the Sunny Homemakers chapter of the Purdue Home Extension. Her loyalty to family and community was reflected in her service to many civic and charitable organizations, including counselor with the State Health Insurance Assistance Programs (SHIP), the Board of Directors of Raintree Square Retirement Community, the Indiana High School Basketball Hall of Fame, the Mental Health Association of Henry County, and the Cadiz Alumni Association. Judy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She loved to cook for her large family and other gatherings of friends. She very much enjoyed playing bridge and watching sports, especially her grandchildren's games. In 2013 Judy was preceded in death by her loving husband of 61 years, Delmar Taylor. She is survived by three sons, Brent D. (wife: Rhonda) Taylor of Carmel, Bradford L. Taylor (friend: Laura Lamaster) of Johns Creek, Georgia and Mark J. (wife: Shelly) Taylor of New Castle; ten grandchildren, Jennifer (husband: Justin) Moffett of Carmel, Tamara (husband: Jon) Walters of Louisville, Kentucky, Emily (husband: Bradley) Weckesser of Wooster, Ohio, Brandon Taylor (friend: Meredith Missler) of Carmel, Jessica (husband: John) Herndon of Alpharetta, Georgia, Michelle (husband: Jon) Sturgis of Chicago, Alexis Taylor (fiance: Steven Wojcio) of Seattle, and Nicholas, Lauren and Colin Taylor all of New Castle; six great-grandchildren, Jackson, Marcus, Fletcher, and Levi Moffett of Carmel, Amos Weckesser of Wooster, and Emerson Walters of Louisville; two brothers, Phillip Cronk of Richmond, William (wife: Donna) Cronk of Sulphur Springs; three brothers-in-law, Robert (wife: Pat) Hinshaw of Yorktown, Donald (wife: Esther) Taylor of New Castle and Marlin (wife: Mary Ann) Taylor of Lake City, Michigan, and a sister-in-law, Doris (husband: Kenneth) Brenneman of New Castle. She also was preceded in death by two sisters, Jean (Cronk) Foster and Thelma (Cronk) Hinshaw, two brothers, Joseph Cronk and Horace Allen Cronk, four sisters-in-law, Cora Mae Kennedy, Beverly Cronk, Dorothy Cronk and Marian Cronk and two brothers-in-law, Earl Foster and Ross Kennedy, in addition to her parents. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 4, 2015 at First Friends Meeting in New Castle with Rick Schoeff presiding. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4 – 8 p.m. Tuesday, at Sproles Family Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to First Friends Meeting or a charity of the donor’s choice.
