Julia Mattie Bell (Ward) Reuben

Julia Mattie Bell (Ward) Reuben, 97, of Fishers, passed away peacefully on the morning of Friday, July 18, 2025, at the home of her loving granddaughter and caregiver. She was born on November 27, 1927, in Hiltonia, Georgia, a daughter of the late James and Hattie Mae (Mosley) Ward. The youngest of 10 siblings, Julia grew up in Georgia and attended college in St. Petersburg, Florida. A natural-born helper and caregiver, she served for many years as a Health Aide at the Georgia War Veterans Nursing Home. Following her retirement, she continued to provide care for others in need. An excellent baker and cook, Julia enjoyed showing her love for her family by spending time with them and ensuring they were well-fed. As the oldest living matriarch of the family, she was the go-to person for dispensing wisdom from her lifetime of experience. Julia enjoyed traveling to visit family in New York, Philadelphia, and Florida. She was dedicated to keeping physically fit by daily exercise and walking. Julia was an avid reader and lifelong learner, always staying current with the latest events. She loved to watch basketball, especially the Atlanta Hawks, and was also a fan of the Atlanta Braves baseball team. Julia had a green thumb and enjoyed gardening, tending her plants, and doing her own yard work. She enjoyed sewing and making clothes from scratch, just as her mother had taught her. Most importantly, Julia loved spending time with family and was constantly inquiring as to their well-being and keeping up with them right to the very end. Those left to cherish Julia’s memory include her granddaughter, Dr. Niles (Cottrell) Carter of Fishers, two great-grandchildren, Amaya and Micah Carter, and many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews whom she dearly loved. In addition to her parents, Julia was preceded in death by her two daughters, Julian Michelle Reuben and Beverly Ann Ita, and her nine brothers and sisters. A service to celebrate Julia’s life will be held at a later date, with burial in Bellevue Memorial Gardens in Augusta, Georgia.
