Kletis D. Horton

Kletis D. Horton, 81, of New Castle, passed away unexpectedly early Wednesday morning, May 6, 2026, at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. She was born September 27, 1944, in New Castle, Indiana, a daughter of the late Samuel “Tillman” and Mabel Irene (Hudson) Brown. Kletis was a woman whose life centered around her family. Nothing brought her more joy than having everyone together, especially her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Whether gathered around the kitchen table for a home-cooked meal or enjoying time together camping, Kletis treasured every moment spent with the people she loved most. She was well known for being an incredible cook and baker. Her chicken and dumplings, beef and noodles, homemade pies, and beautifully decorated cakes became family favorites through the years. Baking for others was one of the many ways she showed her love, and she proudly passed along her talents to her children and others in the family. Kletis also loved gardening and caring for her flowers, finding joy in making her home warm and welcoming. She enjoyed traveling, especially trips to Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, and loved camping at Brookville. In quieter moments, she was happiest at home with her beloved Maltese dogs, Zoey and Mia Lyn. Above all, Kletis will be remembered for her kind and loving heart. She never met a stranger, loved everyone she encountered, and in return was deeply loved by so many. Those left to cherish Kletis’s memory include her loving husband, Bret Horton; two children, Lisa (Joe) Pittman and Randy (Trena) Morgan, both of New Castle; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Milton (Lucy) Horton of Florida; sisters-in-law, Barbara (Preston) Barlow of Kentucky, Tanya (Theron) Smith of South Carolina, Beth (Steve) Williams of Tennessee, Inga Gunther of Indiana, and Greta (Bill) Goble of Indiana; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Kletis was preceded in death by two sisters, Joyce (Elmer) Stone and Judy (Don) Taylor. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, May 11, 2026, at Sproles Family Funeral Home with Pastor Theron Smith officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery West Lawn Addition.
