Mable Murdick

Mable Murdick, 88, of Indianapolis, went home to be with the Lord on the evening of Saturday, December 22, 2018 at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Joyce, in Greenfield, surrounded by her loving family. She was born November 9, 1930 in Bowling Green, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Joseph and Delia (Dearing) Hood. Mable married the love of her life, Everett Murdick, a chiropractor and skilled carpenter, on September 5, 1951 and together they enjoyed 53 years of marriage until his death in 2005. She worked at Fruit of the Loom in Bowling Green, Hallmark and Altenheim Nursing Homes in Indianapolis as a CNA, and Wesleyan Creative Childcare in Beech Grove. For many years she enjoyed babysitting her grandchildren. Mable was a Sunday School Teacher for seven years in the Junior Boys classes at Southside Nazarene and Eastside Nazarene where she volunteered for the food pantry. At University Heights Nazarene Church, Mable served as the Head of Visitation, Treasurer, and Pianist and in 1982 they bestowed on her the Distinguished Service Award. In recent years, she was a member of Independent Nazarene Church in Beech Grove. Mable went back to school and earned her high school diploma at age 48. She loved to bake bread and did so for 67 years much to the enjoyment of her family. She enjoyed working the Daily Word Jumble, playing Scrabble, jigsaw puzzles, playing piano and accordion and reading. Her faith was very important to her. Saved at the age of 11 at the Methodist Church in Kentucky, she was a faithful wife and mother who led her family through difficult times. Mable said, “I didn’t feel any different immediately after I got saved, but when I was halfway home I felt like I was walking on air and can still remember the place in the road where I felt that way.” Mable had to walk 3 and a half miles from the church to her home. Those left to cherish Mable’s memory include six children, Charles (wife: Sandy) Murdick of Indianapolis, Marian (husband: Ray) Hail of New Castle, Beverly Murdick of Beech Grove, Rachel (husband: Harley) Bell of Odon, Timothy (wife: Joyce) Murdick of Greenfield, and Heather (husband: Tony) Denger of New Palestine; 16 grandchildren, Greg (wife: Karensa) Murdick of Houston, TX, Michael Alan Murdick of Indianapolis, Roger Glenn (wife: Amber) Murdick of Acton, Erika (husband: Ben) Robbins of Clayton, NC, Alexander Hail of Ft. Wayne, Christy (husband: Rev. Rick) Kohl of Bainbridge, GA, Tiffany (husband: Lincoln) Wallis of Indianapolis, Ashley (husband: John) Moore of Indianapolis, Nicholas (wife: Melanie) Murdick of Indianapolis, Angela Bump of Indianapolis, David (wife: Kira) Murdick of Fairland, Matthew (wife: Jennifer) Murdick, Jacob Murdick, and Luke Murdick all of Middletown, and Evan and Elise Denger both of New Palestine; 17 great-grandchildren and many step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Everett Murdick; infant twins, Mark Ray and Clark Dale Murdick; a son, David Everett Murdick; a granddaughter, Emily Stump, and 10 brothers and sisters. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, December 29, 2018 at Independent Nazarene Church, 5152 Hornet Ave., with Pastor Richard Gremillion officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Greenwood. Friends may call from 4 - 8 pm Friday at the church and one hour prior to the service.
