Mary Lou Elam

Mary Lou Elam, 78, of Muncie, went home to be with the Lord on the morning of Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at Signature Healthcare in Muncie. She was born on November 27, 1947, in Eaton, Indiana, a daughter of the late Daniel Withers Jr. and Irene (Dick) Withers. Mary was a 1966 graduate of Eaton High School. For more than 30 years, she was a dedicated employee of Radiology Associates in Muncie, where her dependability, kindness, and quiet nature made her a valued coworker and friend. A woman of sincere Christian faith, Mary was a longtime member of Fellowship Baptist Church. Music held a special place in her heart, and she faithfully shared her gift as the church pianist for many years. Her music was not only something she loved, but also a meaningful way in which she served the Lord and her church family. Mary was sweet, reserved, and unassuming on the surface, but those who knew her well were familiar with her wonderfully ornery streak. She was a quiet cut-up who could have those around her laughing before they knew what had happened. Her gentle spirit, subtle sense of humor, and warm personality made her easy to love. She also enjoyed listening to music and settling in to watch an episode of Perry Mason. Those left to cherish Mary’s memory include her son, Tony (Keri) Elam of Yalaha, Florida; her granddaughters, Sarah and Madalynn Elam; a sister, Linda Mason of Muncie; two brothers, John (Cathy) Withers of Sapulpa, Oklahoma, and Richard Doyle (Barbara) Withers of Anderson; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Glen Rankin Elam, in May 2025; a son, Daniel Elam; and two siblings, Carolyn Sue Hardin and Jerry Withers. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, July 27, 2026, at Fellowship Baptist Church, with Pastor Ron Elam officiating. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory in Muncie. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service on Monday at the church. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Sproles Family Funeral Home in New Castle.
