Michael Bruce Canner

Michael Bruce Canner, 78, of New Castle, passed away on the evening of Sunday, June 21, 2026 at The Willows of New Castle. He was born on October 7 1947, in Indianapolis, IN, a son of the late Jack and Mildred (Miller) McAllister. Mike was a graduate of Manuel High School, served in the United States Marine Corp and obtained an Associates Degree in business from the University of Indianapolis. On September 1, 1979, Mike married the love of his life, Linda Cade, and together they shared 46 wonderful years of marriage. They enjoyed vacations, traveling around the world on mission trips and scuba diving trips. Mike worked for 35 years in the steel industry that included Ryerson, Action Steel and Indiana Bridge of Muncie. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in New Castle and Kairos Ministries. Mike earned a black belt in Judo, was a PADI Certified Rescue Master Diver, ran half marathons and completed numerous skydiving jumps. He loved a good prank and there was never a dull moment. He will be remembered as an outgoing, kind, and thoughtful man who truly cared for others. Those left to cherish Mike’s memory include his devoted wife, Linda Canner of New Castle; son, Garry Canner of New Castle; daughter, Amy (Bob) Huff of Whiteland, IN; grandchildren, Henry (Taylor Gaede) McLaughlin, Sam McLaughlin, Abby McLaughlin, Nathan Canner, Travis Canner; a sister, Cindy (Donnie) Hassler; a step-daughter, Jenny Lindsey; step-grandchildren, Rachel Lindsey and Ryan Lindsey and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mike was preceded in death by three siblings, Ron Canner, Dian Gibbons and Creta Davidson. Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm, Thursday, June 25, 2026, at Sproles Family Funeral Home with Pastor Brad Buhro officiating. Burial will follow at South Mound Cemetery West Lawn Addition in New Castle. Friends may call from 11 - 1 pm prior to the service at the funeral home.
